The day is held in the honor of Alain Aspect’s career. The conference will propose talks on scientific topics he pioneered or significantly contributed to, and on technological developments enabled by it.
Manipulating individual photons has been a major achievement, stimulating fundamental tests of quantum physics, such as the experimental tests of Bell’s inequalities, as well as the development of quantum optics. The development of laser cooling and trapping of atoms has paved the way to quantum atom optics, and to the realm of quantum degenerate gases. Today, quantum optics with photons and atoms is at the heart of quantum technologies. The conference « Quantum Physics from Foundations to Innovations: Honouring Alain Aspect » will be an opportunity to celebrate the outstanding contributions of Alain Aspect to these fields, in light of the recent award of the Nobel Prize in Physics 2022.
